OpenAI upgraded ChatGPT-4o with new image generation capabilities earlier this week. Dubbed “4o Image Generation", users can now generate images within ChatGPT using GPT-4o.




This feature focuses solely on image creation and is available across ChatGPT Plus, Team, as well as to Pro users, and is slowly rolling out to the free tier. However, they are not yet available to ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu users.


OpenAI called the new tool the “most advanced image generator yet into GPT‑4o" that features a "natively multimodal model capable of precise, accurate, photorealistic outputs.”


On Thursday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that viral use of ChatGPT’s new image-generation AI is overloading the company’s servers. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “It's super fun seeing people love images in chatgpt, but our GPUs are melting."


He further said that the company will temporarily limit the feature’s usage, adding, "while we work on making it more efficient. Hopefully it won't be long! ChatGPT free tier will get 3 generations per day soon."


Here are the steps to create images with ChatGPT


Step 1: Open the latest version of ChatGPT, then click on the three-dot icon on the prompt bar.


Step 2: Select the "Image" option, which will appear alongside the "Canvas" option.


Step 3: Provide a text prompt detailing how you want the result, like "Generate a Studio Ghibli-style portrait of a person under a bright blue sky"


Step 4: Once the image has been generated, you can refine it by requesting modifications with more specific details


Step 5: Once satisfied with the image, download it.


In addition to ChatGPT, you can also use other alternatives like Gemini, Grok, Microsoft Copilot and others.

How to create amazing images with the Grok AI generator


Generating images with Grok 3 is super easy, and you can access this feature through the web version or directly on the app. Just follow these simple steps:


Step 1: Enter a text prompt in Grok Image Generator and describe your desired image.


Step 2: Then select the 'Edit Image' option to fine-tune details in the image.


Step 3: View results and download your favorite.


How to generate images with Gemini


Step 1: Go to the Gemini either on the web or the app


Step 2: Enter your prompt to generate an image, like create an image of a dog riding a surfboard


Step 3: Once generated, download the image


How to create images with Microsoft Copilot:


Step 1: To generate an image with Copilot, go to the Copilot icon.


Step 2: Type your prompt into the pane to generate the image


Step 3: You can modify and refine your AI image prompts for the best results.
